World War Z Battle of Yonkers

Digital artist Dan LuVisi has produced concept art for the up coming World War Z movie being directed by Marc Forster, (Director of Quantum of Solace). I highly recommend checking out Dan’s website for some more amazing work. In a recent interview by io9 Dan shares his struggles and inspirations in creating the zombie carnage masterpieces.

Incase you haven’t read the book (one of the best zombie books out there) the battle of Yonkers was a pivotal in the war against the living dead. You have the American army battling an unknown undead army using tactics and weapons designed to fight a conventional enemy. The outcome? not good for the living, fresh brains for the dead. To sum the book up a bit. Ten years after the human victory over the world wide Zombie epidemic, referred to as World War Z, Max Brooks scours the world collecting the stories and experiences of those who have survived the conflict that almost eradicated humanity.Of course if you’ve wandered to this site your already a zombie fan and have most likely already read the book but in case you didn’t heres a link to amazon GO BUY IT! well worth the money.

The World War Z screenplay was by Babylon 5 and Rising Stars creator J. Michael Straczynski, not sure if this is good news or bad but a leaked scripted has been given rave reviews and it is being touted as being a pivotal work in the zombie sub genre. I guess we’ll have to see what happens this year when the movie is released. The director is Marc Forester same guy that did Quantum of Solace. Since Brad Pitts production company Plan B Entertainment is producing the film there are rumors of Brad Pitt playing the lead roll as the reporter

Aint it cool had this to say about the script

“World War Z, as a screenplay, is the greatest handling of the living dead since Romero’s quadrilogy. And the first zombie script to have me wondering “Can a zombie film win an Oscar?”

“The world of the film reminds me of CHILDREN OF MEN on the page. Realistic but set in the near-future, in the aftermath of the zombie wars. We see a flashback to Gerry being given his assignment to write a report about ‘where the system worked, where it didn’t, how and in what ways the various organizational infrastructures failed.’ It’s a politically shitty job because no one wants to know that they were responsible for anything that went wrong. Gerry’s hesitant because it’s going to take at least six months away from his family, just as the world is starting to right itself. He takes the job, and as he travels to his first interview, we see how hard travel has become. I hate going through airport security these days, but at least I don’t have to strip naked and subject myself to a blood test. Yet.”

This could be a epic year for zombie fans with the sequel to George Romero Diary of the Dead called Survival of the Dead being released in April and World War Z slated to freak our shit out sometime this comming fall. Now all we need is a squeal to Day by Day Armageddon and my zombie year will be complete…. Actually since i’m dreaming add a Rob Zombie zombie flick to that list.
