The Zombie fans of the world are placed in 2 camps when it comes to the best way to destroy a Zombie. There’s the 1/2 that think Firearms make the best zombie killing weapons, their ability to destroy the undead from affair gives the user added safety plus you don’t get as tired shooting a rifle like you do swinging an Axe. The other 1/2 see firearms as a liability, finite ammo, noisy, requiring difficult maintenance and prone to breakdowns. Is Melee king or is the boomstick the way to go?
In this post I’ll look at 6 firearms that would make short order of a group of Zombies.. Stick around for my Melee series.
AK47 Assault Rifle
Depending on where you live this could possibly be the most common weapon around, that in itself is a major plus, It means you have spare parts and ammo. The AK has gross stopping power and un paralleled reliability. It uses a 7.62x39mm M43 round and weighs in at 4.3KG empty. This is the mostly widely used assault rifle in history with over 100million built since its invention in 1944 by Mikhail Kalashnikov. It comes in countless variations and is fielded by more army’s than any firearm. It’s the combination of power, reliability and its proven track record against the living that places the AK-47on the list.
Ruger 10/22 rimfire Rifle
Whoever said you need a high powered assault rifle to kill a mindless foe? The Ruger 10/22 is a simple long barreled .22 caliber semi automatic rifle with a compass in the stock and weighs in at an average 2.4kg. Of course with a weapon like this head shots are paramount, the zombie would most likely be able to absorb the entire 10 round clip if they those rounds are hitting its body. The trick with the ruger is the bullet only has enough power to enter the skull after which it will ricochet inside the skull causing MASSIVE damage to the undead brain… putting the zombie down for good.
*A .22 caliber rifle was rumored to kill the first Kodiak grizzly bear in the north. The bullet penetrated the bear’s skull than made short order of its brains by ricocheting inside the skull.
If the Ruger is light weight weapon for pin point accuracy the mini gun is on the opposite side of the scale. The mini gun is a 7.62 mm, multi-barrel machine gun, it fires at a practical rate of 4000 rounds per minute and a “Kill them ALL” rate of 6000 rounds per minute. With a gun like this you don’t worry about one shot one kill you aim the barrel at the correct height of the horde and MOW THEM DOWN. of course ammo and noise is a issue and the weight is insane.. Unless it is mounted or your Jesse the body you’re not going to be packing this beast around.
Gun Weight: (14 kg) Ammo Weight: 16 kg per 1000 rounds and Battery Weight 3.5 kg for 1000 rounds fired so for 1 minute of shooting you need 92KG of gear.
* Why is it called a mini gun it’s fucking huge! Its manufacturer is general electrics, they produce the large Gatling machine gun called the Vulcan used in fighter jets, the “mini gun” is a miniature version of the Vulcan.
m4 carbine assault rifle
If you live in the states this is a no brainer. The m4 carbine is the primary assault rifle used by the American Military, law enforcement and para militray living in the south.
The M4 is light with a unloaded weight of 2.7KG and uses the smaller 5.56x45mm standard NATO round. Its modular design makes for easy repairs and the popularity of this rifle has resulted in a massive selection of weapon addons, from grenade launchers to advanced night optics. The M4 has a firing rate of 700-950 round/min and standard clip holds a whopping 30rounds.
Beneli M4 super 90 semi auto shotgun
Why Shoot for the Head when you can shoot for the gut and blast that zombie back to hell. The Benelli shogun will very much help you with this plan; A favorite mainly for its ease of use, availability of ammo and its modular assembly making repairs and modifications easy. It has proven itself both in law enforcement and in military uses to be the shotgun to use against the bad guys. The Super 90 weighs in at 3.82KG has a range of 40yards with a total ammo capacity of 9 12 gauge rounds
*Interesting fact, Beneli is owed by Italian weapons maker Beretta which is one of the oldest running companies in Europe. There has been a father son Beretta running the company since the 1500 hundreds.
This thing is a beast… If you want to turn a Zombie into mist from 1.5Km this is the gun for you.
Uses massive 12.7x99mm standard NATO rounds in a 10-round detachable box magazine. Total length is 145 cm and weighs 14.0 kg.
