For the past year there has been all sorts of stupid shit preventing the World War Z movie project from being started. The film appears to be stuck in devolopment hell, with the studio and director doing everything in their power to slow the progress. Heres a round up of all the news..
Director Marc Forster will be working on Disconnect next instead of the previously though of World War Z. Disconnect is a tech thriller that is being developed by the indie company Nala Films. The film is about how people live in today’s technology world. The technology is meant to bring us closer together but is actually forcing us apart.. ohh sounds “awesome”.
Marc Foster didn’t like the script written by Michael Straczynski so another script has been requested from Matthew Michael Carnahan. This comes after Max Brooks praised the script calling it “epic”. He Later explains the switching of script and the large increase in spending provided by the studio. He says that the studio has paid a “buttLoad” of money to the 2 script writers and himself “they’ve really dug themselves a deep hole, so they better make this thing!” …. how much is a butt load?
Marc Forster is now rumored to be tied to another project which will be completed before he starts World War Z. The film is called Machine Gun Preacher it starts production later this year and is slated for a 2012 release…
World War Z producer Brad Simpson, states that the Film is on hold while they wait for the script to be completed by Michael Carnahan..
IN a interview with FEARnet Max Brooks clears up some of our questions about the future of the movie.
“Paramount just renewed the option for World War Z, for half the time and twice the money, so that might signal interest. We still got our director, Marc Forster, who’s raring to go. Were all waiting on Matt Carnahan’s new draft, which should come in a month or so. Once that comes in then I think it probably will have to be tweaked and brought to the studio but we’re sort of zeroing in on that moment where Paramount has to say yes or no. ”
Max goes on to explain that the budget the film requires is making the studio execs nervous.
“the scope of the book, makes it hard to produce, in that this thing’s gotta be done right or it just can’t be done. You can’t do a cheap and dirty World War Z. It’s a world war,”Max mentions that the popularity of zombies and apocalyptic topics is rising… so he’s optimistic at the future of the movie and book series.
Late last year Paramount stated that Forster was not directing the film yet now they are saying he’s in. I’ll bet you a bottle of beer that this movie never gets made and if it does it will be an massive Bono sized turd. Its too bad because the book was a real hit.
